Drop off / The Wall

  • Dive Type: Wall, reef, photo, video
  • Max Depth: 30+m
  • Avg Depth: 12-18m
  • Visibility: 15m to 25m, depending on swell, surge and wind.
  • Level required: Open Water / CMAS*, Advanced OW or CMAS** preferred because there’s quite a bit of stuff to see beyond 18m/20m.
  • Description: The drop-off is the name for the tiny bay found beyond the point at Blue Lagoon. It is thus named because it is an easy place for all types of boats to drop-off the divers! The bay is pretty shallow, around 5m until 7m with healthy coral; it then slopes down with more scattered coral into deeper areas.
    • It is in this area that you will find the small things that are specific to Padang Bai area. Once you have started going down the slope in a north direction, turn southeast and take your time, open your eyes wide and enjoy the macro! The slope then slowly becomes steeper as it turns south, to then become a straight wall down to 27m. The slope starts again 30m-40m further on to access into the Blue Lagoon area, where the boats are usually moored, waiting for you!

  • Marine Life: It can go from the classic parrotfish, sweetlips and all to some turtles, morays and weird small things. Cowfish, stingrays, mantis shrimps, translucent anemone shrimps, cuttlefish, large-spotted snake eel, long-jawed mackerel, very interesting nudibranchs, cockatoo waspfish, octopus, scorpion fish, garden eels, ribbon eels, peacock razorfish…
